Blood may be spilled in Mapela

FIGHT between the Community of Mogalakwena in Limpopo is far from over. This comes after the local mining companies are accused of causing divisions amongst them. It appears that the fight which is also influenced more by the Langa royal family division frustrates members of the community. Now the supporters of Chief Malesela Langa II are threatening to take the law into their own hands if the department of Cooperative Governance Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the province continue to fail them.

These members informed MEC Jerry Ndou during his visit in their area on Tuesday that they are used to fight and blood does not scare them. Esrom Masenya said they cannot watch as the community is getting more frustrated by the illegitimate crowd.

"Mapela  had been in fights before and the people of Mapela are not afraid to fight again. We are giving you at least 14 days MEC and your team or otherwise we will take it upon ourselves. Government gave our legitimate Chief Malesela Langa II a certificate of recognition as the Chief of this community last year but we still have two tribal offices operating. The people who are occupying the other office must be removed or we will remove them," said Masenya.

Mapela witnessed fights before following the Chieftainship squabbles between David Langa and the current Chief Malesela Langa II. Their fight which took more than 20 years was relaxed when the court ordered that the rightful Chief is Malesela. However, the administration under David continued to occupy the offices and refused to leave saying they recognize David as their Chief.

A suggestion was given to COGHSTA department on Tuesday by angry Mapela residents to withdraw salaries from the supporters of David who were operating as headmen during his term. The community is now having parallel Indunas who also have their own followers. It was also revealed that the funds the tribal houses are getting from the local mining companies fuel the problems.

"We are here meeting government and our beloved Chief Langa II but there is a crowd of people who were taken to the mine in a form of a march by the other group. That was done just to sabotage this event. They are marching with the help of the factionalists especially the expelled councillors from the ruling party," Malesela Mabuela  explained.

MEC Ndou assured the community that Malesela Langa II is their  rightful Chief. He said his department will soon resolve the challenges of two tribal offices and the parallel Indunas.
