Racism is a Cancer in South Africa

RACISM is real and seems to be far from over in South Africa. This comes after a News Editor at Energy FM Emmanuel Kwinda cry faul after he was allegedly called a Bobejaan by white fellow over a casino machine. The incident that took place last week at Meropa casino in Polokwane angered the Newsman who said he never thought racism will ever happen to him.

“I was busy playing when this fellow occupy the machine closer to me. We greeted each other and later I told him that I never used the machine he is using and I wish he can teach me how it operates. He refused saying he can’t teach me and we were both fine with it but few minutes after he stand up and started insulting me. I don’t know if the machine finished his money or what. He said “I can’t be playing next to a Bobejaan, no I can’t be sitting here’. I was shocked,” said Kwinda.

He said after the man moved to another machine Kwinda then followed him with confrontation over the Bobejaan (Baboon) word. He said the man continued calling him the Bobejaan and other players were shocked by the incident.

“I am so worried that racism is serious in this country. I experienced it and I am now traumatized that people can be so racists. I informed the security and Management of Meropa and we were taken to a private room for statements and he refused to talk. The police were called because I could not let him go just like that,” concerned Kwinda said.

Limpopo police Spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that the police in Westernburg station opened a case of Crimen injuria. He said the police have not arrested anyone and are still looking for the suspect following the incident.
