Stop infringing others' rights during your protests

Violent protests worries the Human Rights Commission in Limpopo. In almost every protest in the province, other people's right are violated. Head of the Commission in the province Victor Mavhidula says it came to their serious concern that the acts keeps on mounting as if they are legal. He spoke to the communities during Human Rights day commemoration held in Ga-Mokgehle village outside Polokwane.

"As much as you want to practice your rights be careful of not infringing other's rights. When destroying the infrastructures during your protests know that your are delaying the delivery of services in the province. As Commission we want to urge you to refrain from those acts," he said.

Mavhidula emphasized that they meet with government every time when the communities are complaining about services. He said they will keep on ensuring that government do what is mandated to do for the communities.

Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha said when communities fight against a certain Mayor and burn schools, they must know that they are directing their anger to the wrong direction. He told residents that the infrastructure damaged has got nothing to do with the person they are fighting.

"Limpopo is quite a unique province, because of many historical facts. I wish to call upon all of us gathered here and all those listening to us from the corners of the province to know that Human Rights and dignity are sacrosanct. Our freedoms are enshrined in the Bill of Rights which is the cornerstone of our democracy," said Mathabatha.
