Burning Witches in not an African Culture

Image
BURNING witches or accusing others of practising witchcraft is not an African culture. It can never be but others makes it a norm in their communities, more especially in the rural areas. In most cases those accused of witchcraft are burned while those who are luck to can continue breathing are banned from such communities. It is high time that Africans stand against such behaviors and say "Not in my Culture", so says Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr. Zweli Mkhize. He said there are channels to be followed when one committed a certain crime in the country but burning or killing a person can never be a solution. He spoke to the traditional leaders and communities in Moletjie Moshate outside Polokwane in Limpopo on Thursday. Mkhize emphasized that traditional councils also have a role to play in ensuring that people understand culture. "That need to stop because there is no way anyone can be allowed to take other person's life. I

We want to stop these ANC councillors who propose women using municipal posts. People will be hired according to their qualifications. These councillors will be hired to patch the potholes. Those who are illiterate will be working on the same level with these current councillors," said Malema. He emphasized that there are those community members who could not study because of their poor family backgrounds and they cannot be denied opportun

"People can expect commitments from EFF not the promises they always hear from other parties. We are committing ourselves to our people and we don't promise them what we will never do for them. We commit ourselves and we will never disappoint," said Buthane. Members and supporters of the party went all out to hear their Commander in Chief Julius Malema to give them the commitments from the party. He spoke to the communities during Human Rights day commemoration held in Ga-Mokgehle village outside Polokwane.                                FIGHT between the Community of Mogalakwena in Limpopo is far from over. This comes after the local mining companies are accused of causing divisions amongst them. It appears that the fight which is also influenced more by the Langa royal family division frustrates members of the community. Now the supporters of Chief Malesela Langa II are threatening to take the law into their own hands if the department of Cooperative Governance Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the province continue to fail them. These members informed MEC Jerry Ndou during his visit in their area on Tuesday that they are used to fight and blood does not scare them. Esrom Masenya said they cannot watch as the community is getting more frustrated by the illegitimate crowd. "Mapela  had been in fights before and the people of Mapela are not afraid to fight again. We are giving you at least 14 days MEC and your team or otherwise we will take it upon our

Municipal by-laws relaxed for election campaigns

Image
ELECTION times have arrived in South Africa and political parties are trying hard to convince and attract the voters. In almost every area volunteers of several political parties are seen doing door-to-door campaigns. They even get to the areas they never entered since their last election campaigns in 2016. It is a common knowledge to some of the communities especially those who lack certain services that they get more visits from politicians more than before. More food parcels and promises of some sorts from politicians from different formations will be witnessed more than before as way of trying to get sympathy from the poor voters to give them a chance. Street lights in the villages and towns are packed with political posters bearing faces of the leaders. That takes place as part of their strategy to attract voters and make them to be familiar with the faces to be voted for during the elections. However, the municipal by-laws states that those who want to advertise on thei

Racism is a Cancer in South Africa

RACISM is real and seems to be far from over in South Africa. This comes after a News Editor at Energy FM Emmanuel Kwinda cry faul after he was allegedly called a Bobejaan by white fellow over a casino machine. The incident that took place last week at Meropa casino in Polokwane angered the Newsman who said he never thought racism will ever happen to him. “I was busy playing when this fellow occupy the machine closer to me. We greeted each other and later I told him that I never used the machine he is using and I wish he can teach me how it operates. He refused saying he can’t teach me and we were both fine with it but few minutes after he stand up and started insulting me. I don’t know if the machine finished his money or what. He said “I can’t be playing next to a Bobejaan, no I can’t be sitting here’. I was shocked,” said Kwinda. He said after the man moved to another machine Kwinda then followed him with confrontation over the Bobejaan (Baboon) word. He said the man continued

Society needs prayers most

Image
PRAYERS are needed most to safe the society out of the current trouble of killings. During his prayers at the Limpopo provincial Stability summit on Thursday, Pastor Awedzani Nemaukwe requested God to instill fear into human beings. This comes after several shocking experiences of killingsbthat took place in the country. Young children also involved in some as the perpetrators. He said fearing the Almighty God is the only better way for human race to getnback to their senses. The country is approaching election times and it is commonly known that violence took centre stage. The prayers and the summit are for a hope that no areas will be regarded as no-go by citizens or criminals. "When you fear God, you fear nothing but when you don't fear God your fear everything else. Lord give them knowledge, give them wisdom and understanding. Guide us and lead us as we pray believing that you are listening tonour prayers Lord. For you are the listener of the prayers of your serv

Parents, take charge in your children's behaviour

CHILDREN must be allowed to be children and behave as such. No child must be forced to behave in a manner orlder than his/her age. But the question raising eyebrows remains: "Who is responsible in monitoring all those behaviors of the children? Whose responsibility is to channel the child's future?" As much as these Children are behaving as they should, they also have responsibility to behave well. Parents are left with more work to ensure that the good behaviour that is expected from the children is in deed at work. Parents must take charge of their children's behaviour. Recently the country (South Africa) experienced shocking actions coming from young children, mostly school children. Bullying and Gangsterism were seen as the two in the centre stage. However, Social Media exposed most of the actions as these children films whatever they are doing. Several school children were suspended from different schools in the country due to their behavior while others were

Questionable Christianity amongst Africans

CHRISTIANITY was known to be a way of raising good mannered and people with good morality. It was a way parents uses to pave a good way for their children by ensuring that respect is also instilled within them. However, God fearing channel has now become Money making channel. This kind of behavior is mostly witnessed amongst Africans who claim to be Prophets or Pastors. They try by all means to attract as many fans as possible for their churches to be filled as their pockets are also expanded by the money from the poor who are vulnerable to get assisted from the said Prophets. On Tuesday SABC's programme Cutting Edge exposed how these Pastors/Prophets operate. It spoke to several people who had been acting at Alleluia ministries, where a church founder Alph Lukau claimed to have powers to do miracles. Recently on what to the World by storm and shocked them was the resurrection of Bryton Moyo who stage name is "Elliott". This and other acts like those of Doom Pastor,
